I just read a bit of disturbing news on the dietary habits of 582 Oregon State University students, as reported in an August 17, 2011 article on the ‘Science Daily’ website. Not only that, it was found that their males and females studied were not consuming nearly enough fresh produce. Of the 582 students, the males were eating about five servings of fruits and vegetables weekly; the females about four. This is often a ‘far cry,’ noted Science Daily, from the additionally recommended five servings daily!
Some people avoid milk in their diets due to the fact lactose intolerance. Some people prefer to what is vegan diet, a diet free of all animal products, for ethical points why. Some people believe milk is not healthy for adults. Some just dislike the taste. No you need to attempt to eat a protein free diet, though, because we must have protein for good health. For example, one pound of millet costs as compared to $1.00 per pound at our local health grocery. With that, 1Cup of millet with three cups of water makes about three cups of cooked millet. Add some diced carrots, basil, Braggs liquid aminos, salt and pepper and you might patties, fried in coconut oil or olive oil. Very healthy and tasty too! That makes about fourteen patties. Put some guacamole on top and you made a very nutritious breakfast for pennies along the dollar.
These days, eating an entire meal of fruit is no problem for us. In fact, my meals are now mostly comprised of just *one* type of fruit eaten until I am broad. On average, I consume close to ten pounds of food each and every day.
Sometimes people get frustrated by dietary changes because they feel too restricted and even go back to their old ways. Use this true for new vegans. However, as opposed to focusing on anyone can’t have, turn your attention about the you can have now. It’s likely that you’ll discover new foods or look at “old” foods in new ways. Just do it– experiment. You might just like it.
Many people are asking themselves if this diet really works out well. And the answer is yes. It works especially if you have the will to get it done. When I first became a vegan I often became self-conscious for choosing not to consume animal ‘foods’ at family dinners. Reasons to? Well, according to a recent (2006), national survey, performed by Whole Foods Market, about 80 percent of Americans eat meat; at least three times in one week. Consuming the flesh of another being to ‘satisfy your hunger’ is still considered acceptable, by most. Almost everywhere you look within the mainstream media, meat-consumption is construed as ‘the norm,’ not the exception.
And lastly my vegan colleagues, please, oh please cease eating junk food. I want to spell it out for you. If you want to deep fry it or load it up with sugar or salt it is junk food.
